BIOGRAPHY

Jennifer Jones is a textiles-based artist who is currently a resident at Sarabande (Lee Alexander McQueen) Foundation. Upon graduating BA Fine Art at Central Saint Martins with First Class Honours in 2022, she was awarded Bloomberg New Contemporaries and the New Futures Graduate Art Prize, as well as a residency on the Associate Studio Programme with Acme and UAL. Jones has participated in various group shows across the UK and international venues including South London Gallery, Camden Arts Centre, Maakhaven (NL) and the exhibition space at City University Hong Kong.
Jones' practice is rooted in the transformation of family photo archives. Through processes of redaction, re-composition, scale alteration and reconstruction of personal imagery, Jones creates imagined scenarios and characters which are simultaneously real and invented. Often taking the form of textiles, reminiscent of domestic household objects (clothing, curtains, rugs, tapestries), the work examines nostalgia, memory and ‘rose-tinted’ pasts.
By inviting audiences to contemplate secrecy and what’s kept private within the home, Jones asks us to consider how we construct and curate our own familial narratives.
Alongside her personal practice, Jones is Founder and Producer of 'Grafters Collective', a support network for emerging working-class artists which aims to spark crucial conversations about the elitism ingrained in the art world, its deeply rooted class structures, and the changes needed to make art accessible to all—both for its makers and audiences.
